For years Rachel had tried in vain to trace his whereabouts; the one that got away. Six years ago they split up to pursue different goals; his being traveling and living vicariously. How could he give up on something so perfect? Or was she the only one who felt that way? The thought irked her all these years.
As life would have it; when she had finally given up and moved on with her life, her best friend called with news. Kaleb who had abandoned his career as a surgeon and gone backpacking around Europe; in his pursuit of happiness, got a girl knocked up and chivalrously married her. Unfortunately she miscarried and so they moved to her hometown in Italy and settled there. He ran a restaurant, something Rachel and he planned on doing together.
Now as she boarded the flight to Italy she was focused on serving this nation through the recent viral outbreak. But she couldn't shake away the gnawing feeling that she may bump into him. It scared her but her priorities were set, or so she convinced herself.
