But all this means that it would be fatal to the work which Judaic monotheism has to do if it were found allying itself with any practical acquiescence in a schism in humanity, for then indeed it would go halting and impotent. I am not sure that there is not for monotheism to-day in this matter as great and crucial a crisis as that which confronted Israel in the days of Amos and Hosea, Isaiah and Micah.
