Publisher's Synopsis

The Vernon Manuscript, produced sometime between 1390 and 1400, is one of the greatest treasures of early English literature and one of the most frequently studied literary manuscripts of medieval England. It contains over three hundred and fifty Middle English texts, among them Piers Plowman, the Ancrene Riwle, the South English Legendary, the Prick of Conscience, and the Miracles of the Virgin.

For the first time, the entire manuscript is available in an innovative, highly accessible DVD-ROM format. The DVD-ROM contains a full-color facsimile with images of each page of the manuscript, visible at high magnification, and a complete transcription of the text with hyperlinks that allow for searches across the entire text. Also included are essays on the contents, production, decoration, and language, as well as a complete glossary of descriptive terms. Providing an unprecedented degree of access to this remarkable manuscript, this edition will be a valuable resource for specialists and students in medieval literature and art and the history of the book.
