This is a revised and expanded edition of the text published in 1982, bringing it into line with the requirements of the National Curriculum. It now caters specifically for the needs of pupils at Key Stages 2, 3 and 4, but should also be of interest to sixth form and college students and the general public. The aim throughout is to stimulate an interest in English as a living language and a care in its use, and the book is intended for class use as well as for individual study.
