Publisher's Synopsis

The book covers the life of Terence Dillon. Terence was born in a mining village in Yorkshire. His father worked in the local mine, but had talent as a trombone player. Through his encouragement and that of his uncles, who were also brass players, Terence joined the local village brass band before moving on to a nearby first class band which became British Open Champions. Terence seemed set for the life of a coalminer, but he succeeded in becoming a teacher, headteacher and a successful educational consultant.
The book describes how a boy from a simple background and with limited prospects goes on to become a member of the Welsh Guards Band, is involved in making musical records and becomes educational adviser to several national governments.
