Publisher's Synopsis
This practical book explores the theory and practice of using drama in groupwork. It is based on the experience of probation groupwork but the work described can be used in a wide range of settings. Probation clients represent a particularly difficult group and, where drama techniques have been successful with them, it can also be productive elsewhere. Philip Moore was formerly a professional actor who has combined drama skills and social work training and experience to address relationship issues, which, he argues, are behind much of offending behaviour, and in the wider context, personal unhappiness and depression. Employing drama techniques in groupwork provides a ærehearsal for realityÆ by giving participants an opportunity to explore real-life situations in a safe space. Its value is becoming more widely recognised by social work and counselling professionals.
