Publisher's Synopsis
This work presents an overview of current thinking in and around systemic linguistics. It includes contributions by leading systemic theorists (Halliday, Matthiessen and Lemke) and by two major figures whose work has always had a close relationship to systemic linguistics (Sinclair and Firbas). A key section in the book shows that up-and-coming systemicists are challenging and extending existing practice. Also included are three textual studies - two literary and one on the game of bridge.
