In an unheard-of place, Orap, each successive Taliban-like regime takes the year back to zero, as though history could be restarted. An Irish-raised Orapian woman, Marguerite, imprisoned for fighting the fundamentalist government, is pregnant. To retain her sanity she tells her unborn child the story of three baby zeroes - Lila, Marguerite and her unborn child - all girls from the one family born at times of upheaval.
