Publisher's Synopsis
C-1 Building Blocks in Organic Synthesis provides a critical overview of synthetic organic reactions that add one carbon atom to a substrate. The number of reagents available as C-1 building blocks is limited, but the reaction types that can be applied for each of them vary considerably. This volume examines alkenation of aldehydes and ketones, and cross coupling for the introduction of a methyl, carbonyl, cyano, or nitromethyl group to a substrate. Insertion of carbenes into C-H bonds is discussed, as is the insertion of carbon monoxide into small-ring heterocycles. Hydroformylation and cyanation of epoxides and aziridines are also reviewed, as are substitution reactions of organometallic reagents Mannich-type reactions, the Vilsmeier reagent, metathesis, and halomethylation.
