Publisher's Synopsis

The rapid progress in cancer treatment, particularly for acute myeloid leukemia in adults, acute lymphoblastic leukemia in children, and malignant lymphomas is discussed in this volume. During the past decade these three diseases have become curable; however, much work remains to be done in solving problems associated with chemotherapy for gastrointestinal cancers and non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). A common theme in all the presentations at the symposium was that both survival and cure rates for many types of cancer have improved significantly and will continue to improve as new drugs are introduced. This volume focuses on the current state of chemotherapy, challenging research in this area, and what can be achieved in the future and will serve not only as a reference source but also as a stimulus for future research.
