Kelsey Howe is a likable teenager, observant and thoughtful, but with her share of adolescent insecurities and frustrations. Together with her younger brother and grandfather, she boards a small plane at Seattle's bustling airport, headed for Montana's Rocky Mountain wilderness. The trip is a chance to get to know her grandfather better and spend some time in the cabin he had built in his youth. But, a crash landing far into the heart of Washington's rugged Cascade Mountains, with back-to-back November storms fast approaching, turns their fun outing into a grim race for survival. During the adventures that follow, Kelsey will need to find deep within herself greater strength, ingenuity, and courage than she ever knew she possessed. (ages 9-14)
