"Almost all intrastate conflicts involve ceasefires, yet we know little about their variable role or what makes them effective or ineffective in ending civil conflict. When are ceasefires used, when and how do ceasefire and political negotiation processes foster or impede each other, and how do various context factors condition this relationship?
