Publisher's Synopsis

The findings from the second stage of the DSS/PSI Programme of Research into Low Income Families are presented in this report. It compares the extent of changes in the composition, welfare, income and labour market behaviour of lone parents surveyed between 1989 and 1993. Data from three surveys are compared.;The first survey was carried out by Bradshaw and Millar in 1989 when 1200 lone parents were interviewed. The second survey was carried out by PSI in 1991 when 900 lone parents were interviewed. The third survey was carried out by PSI in 1993. In this survey 840 of those lone parents interviewed in 1991 were reinterviewed along with a new sample of 900 lone parents.
