Publisher's Synopsis

A Brief Overview

Chasing an Unknown Destiny is a book about a character who went through a mixture of tranquil days in his birthplace, Bhutan and sorrowful journey afterwards following forced eviction into a refugee camp in Nepal. It is a written account of his survival with hardships in the refugee camp for seventeen years since June 1992. It captures a timeline of shattered moments of his life as he had to live relying only on a very limited relief support provided by the United Nations (UN) Refugee Agency. This book also documents his gradually intensifying challenges following his transition for a new life in the United States in 2008. It details his experience living in two different worlds- from growing up in the traditional and isolated parts of Asian society and then migrating to the industrialized society in the West in his adulthood. It describes his hope and struggles to adapt into mainstream American society with an enormous lifestyle shift while still trying to maintain and fuse some Eastern values.

The book is an account of his feelings and experiences of adjustment as a minority individual with multiple disabilities as he moved from the East to the West. His story also features his new life journey with a cochlear implant, an advanced and assistive hearing technology. It speaks of his faint voice as a vulnerable individual but also as an energized person after he survived a severe auto-crash injury.
