Publisher's Synopsis

Confusion in Urban Design develops the thesis that the northern (Northern European and American) city is primarily introverted (domestic) whereas the southern (Mediteranean) city is extroverted (public). Oliva i Casas argues that the dominant paradigm of modernist urban design (going back to Le Corbusier) has been based on the northern, domestic model, and that this accounts for many of the failures of contemporary planning. Written in a highly personal and readable manner, this book presents a plea for a reconsideration of the dominant urban model.
