Publisher's Synopsis

A government initiative is underway to reduce the number of accidents in the construction industry. In May 2002 work was stopped at almost half of the 444 construction sites visited by the Health and Safety Executive inspectors as part of a recent inspection blitz across Scotland and the north of England. The blitz was primarily targeted at tackling risks posed by falls from a height, unsafe site transport management, and inadequate welfare provision. The blitz, which took place between 13 and 17 May 2002, was the second in a 12-month-long rolling programme of site inspections across the UK aimed at improving health and safety in the construction industry. Against this background, this Health and Safety book for the Construction industry will set out the key safety requirements. The title will include the Safety section from the Building and Development looseleaf, but it will be significantly extended to provide more comprehensive coverage of health and safety issues as they apply to the Construction Industry.
