This first publication in English of the official British Report on the Resistance in Crete during the German Occupation (1945-1945) is of obvious importance, based as it is on the individual reports from the field those British Officers sent to Crete with the purpose of encouraging and co-ordinating its activities initiated by the gallant Cretan people. The views and statements expressed in the Report are more striking and authentic since they were never intended for circulation outside British GHQ. If anything of any value was achieved by the British in Crete, they owed this to the Cretans themselves, without whose protection and help of ever kind, no British Officer would have survived more than twenty-four hours...
