This volume follows the format of a new series, derived from the well-known "Chemistry of Functional Groups" series edited by Saul Patai. The aim is to take key chapters from the substantial volumes in that series, update these as appropriate and include new material on related topics to provide a more accessible and smaller volume devoted to the specific and important field of the original book.;The study of crown ethers has developed only in the last two decades. Supplement E in 1980 already contained four substantial chapters on this topic, but since then research on crown ethers and analogs has increased exponetially and this third update volume is therefore extremely timely. The text has been aimed specifically at organic and physical organic chemists.
