Sir Lancelot Spratt lost faith in the National Health Service when his operating theatre ceiling collapsed. Threatened with closure, he decides to fight for the hospital. His battle is complicated, however, by three ladies and two ex-students, entrusted with a holiday locum at Spratt's Bottom.
