This book is compiled by a group of international 'Redology' experts. The 80,000 words narrate the stories in the paintings as an abridged version of Dream of the Red Chamber written especially for readers in the West. The paintings a represented with captions to invite international readers to experience the profoundness and culture of this great classic. The images were created by Sun Wen (1819-1891), a folk art painter of the Qing dynasty. A fan of the classic book, he spent 36 years painting the stories with a fine brush technique. A portfolio of his works was collected by the Lv Shun Museum and first exhibited to the public in 2004. The author is He Weiguo, a young Redologist and deputy researcher of the Hongloumeng Institute of the Chinese National Academy of Arts, who is concurrently secretary general and executive director of the Hongloumeng Society. His works include a monograph titled Academic Papers on the Film and Television Culture in the Red Chamber and a total of more than 400,000 words of academic writing.
