It explains the powers of sentencing which can be used and how they are likely to be exercised in practice.;The book incorporates all of the changes made by the Criminal Justice Acts 1991 and 1993 and by the Magistrates Association Sentencing Guidelines. Since the first edition of this book in 1985, a great deal of sentencing law and practise has changed. Powers to remove an offender's ill-gotten gains from drug-traffficking and other lucrative offending were introduced in the Drug Trafficking Offenses Act 1986 and the Criminal Justic Act 1988.
