Publisher's Synopsis

The present publication by Paola Sconzo is the first volume of the final report about the Syrian-German excavations at middle Euphratian Tell el-'Abd, Syria, from 1992 to 1994. Sconco's book approaches the ceramic of the 3rd millennium and deals in detail with the pottery analysis and classification, the internal chronology of the 'Abd third millennium pottery. Special attention is paid to the potmarks and marking system of Tell el-'Abd. The study also comprises a report of the survey of the Middle Euphrates sites and their correlation with the 'Abd ceramic sequence. A large number of tables and drawings allows the reader to have a closer look to the overwhelming material. - Two further volumes are planned, dedicated to architecture and stratigraphy (Vol. I) and to the small finds and to Environmental Studies (Vol. III).
