Publisher's Synopsis
This is the first volume of a new series. For many Indo-European languages, the teaching materials are either outdated or not yet adapted for introductory courses. With this new series, the editors aim to provide a contemporary alternative. The grammar sketches present the material in a practical way, often in the form of diagrams and tables. They provide a summary of attestation, writing system, phonology basics, morphology and the syntax of the specific language or language stage, while taking into account the latest specialist literature. Priority is given to a synchronic depiction; diachronic facts are elaborated on if they are of didactic value to the beginner. All languages are presented in transliterated form to be more approachable to the beginner. The series is aimed at students and teachers of Indo-European studies, philologists and general linguists as well as interdisciplinary scholars, high school students and teachers and amateurs.
