Jonathan Swift was an Irish writer and politician. Swift is best known today for his books, especially Gulliver's Travels which is a classic in English literature. Gulliver's Travels is a satirical novel that centers around Lemuel Gulliver who, after being shipwrecked, wakes up on an island inhabited by very little people. Throughout Gulliver's many adventures he gains new insight into how different humans behave.
