The figure of the Red Horse had stood on the Warwickshire hillside for as long as anyone could remember but it masked a sinister power which linked it to violent death and human sacrifice: from the earliest times, when an ancient tribe dwelt at the foot of the escarpment known as Tiw's Ho and sought the help of a one-handed priest to rid them of a terrible pestilence; to an attempt in the Middle Ages by a Doctor Caius to harness the power for his own benefit and rid the community of an evil serpent against the wishes of the Church; and leading seven hundred years later to the execution of Bustin The Incendiary at Warwick Prison in 1834.In the 1980s, Kim, Jeremy and Matthew follow up work on a school project on the Red Horse and discover the real figures beneath. They also find a curious metallic artefact on the hillside that holds the key to the terrible happenings in the past. They decide to keep their discovery secret, with frightening consequences.
