It is said that one of the early church fathers, Augustine, wrote, "We learn more theology from the songs that we sing than from the sermons that we hear." Whether he said that or not, it is true.
We worship a triune God who sings. "For the Lord your God is living among you. He is a mighty savior. He will take delight in you with gladness. With his love, he will calm all your fears. He will rejoice over you with joyful songs." Zephaniah 3:17 (NLT) He wants us to sing as well. "Speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody with your heart to the Lord;" Ephesians 5:19
The purpose of this book is to bring us back to the Hymns of Praise that many of us knew as we grew up. The hymns that have been selected have special significance to the author of this work. Each hymn has a corresponding devotional for inspiration and motivation.
It is my prayer that you will be blessed and reminded of the heritage of faith that is possessed in these hymns.
