Publisher's Synopsis
Kayla and her mother live happily together - just the 2 of them. When her mum loses her job and hom, Kayla thinks all their problems can be solved by winning the lottery. They don't win the lottery, but they do get a house - with a batty old lady and a couple of young squatters already installed in it. Then mum gets ill and the social services send Kayla to stay with the father who is never mentioned - a crochety professor who is far from the dashing figure of Kayla's daydreams. How this disparate group of characters come together makes a story of great warmth and humour, by a new author who writes attractively and with insight about family life.
