Publisher's Synopsis

Richard Gaunt moved to South Wales in 1969. Already possessing a keen interest in photography that he had developed living in County Durham, he now turned his attention to his new home. He photographed everything he saw; the steelworks where he worked, the locomotives that gave him many hours of off-duty pleasure and the people and buildings around him. The seventies were very much a time of change in Wales. Old terraced streets were giving way to new housing developments and old industries like coal and steel were becoming obsolete. These changes are reflected in the remarkable black and white photography that makes up this powerful collection of images, framed by the author's reminiscences of the time. Richard has a superb eye for the usual and the memorable and it is his pictures of people and the stark beauty of the run down and the decayed that make the images in this book both so poignant and so unforgettable. This book will delight those that revel in a well-framed photograph as well as those that wish to explore a time of genuine change, not so long ago
