This book offers an introduction to European embroidery in the Burrell Collection, Glasgow. Highly illustrated and written for a general interest adult audience, it features approximately 50 objects from the Burrell Collection, each shown in full, with close-up images of details. The embroideries have been selected from the approximately 350 European embroideries in the Burrell Collection, ranging from the medieval period to the eighteenth century, and include several with royal connections. The Burrell's collection of sixteenth- and seventeenth-century embroideries is of international importance, ranking alongside the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, including Judge Untermeyer's collection, the Victoria and Albert Museum, London, Lord Leverhulme's collection at the Lady Lever Art Gallery, Port Sunlight, and the Feller Collection at the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford.
