Publisher's Synopsis
The building complex of the German Association of Savings and Clearing Banks in the southern part of Bonn was designed by the architect Karl-Heinz Schommer. It is an example of the successful integration of a new structure in historical surroundings. Connected through a spacious transparent hall, the three parts of the complex blend harmoniously with each other and at the same time constitute distinctive buildings whose architectural shape and form indicate their individual function.;The housing building, the seminar section, the lecture room and the library are precisely designed in their details. The design attaches great importance to the harmony of the materials used, including Schoenbrunner sandstone, warm yellow-reddish beech wood and stainless steel.;The architectural details of this building are presented in this volume, which includes large-format photographs, plans, sketches and text to reveal the creative vision of the architect and the objectives of the clients. It is part of a series that aims to present projects which have had only single coverage in trade journals, but that are nevertheless worthy buildings.
