Publisher's Synopsis
This detailed study of the lithic industry of Bandkeramik populations in North-east France and Belgium examines assemblages from the Aisne Valley, Champagne, Alsace, Hainaut and Hebaye, in particular. For each of these areas, Pierre Allard describes the contemporary sites, raw materials represented, the technology present and the use of lithic tools. His analysis of more than 55,000 finds leads to a general overview of the development of the lithic industry, examining issues such as the trade-off between quality of raw material versus distance to the source, different modes of procurement, Chaine Operatoire, and the nature of the tool kits found.
