Mendel was born into a very poor family in the early part of this century. He played a part in the Polish workers movement, and later in Paris with the Polish and Russian immigrants. He then took part in the Russian Revolution in the October uprising, volunteered for the Red Army in 1920 and became a member of the military revolutionary committee of the Communist party of Poland.;He was active in the struggle of the White Russian peasants and workers against Polish oppression and led the Jewish workers of the Communist Party of Poland. He was an insider in the Communist international organization in Moscow and was involved unwillingly in the Stalinist collectivizations. This book is an account of his life.
