Bernard was born and bred in Upper Holloway / Hornsey Rise, London N.19. The area in which Matt Monroe had been 'discovered', singing in "The Favourite" Pub N.19 (situated just before the Rise, (hill) to Crouch End / Hornsey N.8, where Colin Chapman started building Lotus Cars, alongside Hornsey BR Railway Station, utilising the railway sidings to build the cars); close by to Rod Stewart, (Highgate N.6) where an old school friend of Bernie's, Colin Webster, (Hornsey Rise, N19) had rescued Rod, from a dance hall brawl, in the early 1960's (Finchley N.3).
