Publisher's Synopsis

This facsimile reproduction of the 1873 first edition is the granddaddy of modern Louisiana Masonic history books. Scot traces Louisiana Masonry from the organization of Perfect Union and Etoile Polaire Lodges until approximately 1870. Bitingly hostile remarks towards James Foulhouze (some taken from the works of Albert Pike) show the highly emotional climate of Louisiana Masonry in the late 1800's. While Scot sometimes allowed his emotions to get the best of him (slanting his objectivity), this long out of print work gives many valuable bits of information concerning the development of all branches of Louisiana Masonry. The Introduction, by Alain Bernheim, and the Afterword, by Michael R. Poll, are themselves significant Masonic historical works which add greatly to the collected knowledge of early Louisiana Masonry.
