Publisher's Synopsis

The author's ancestors were a family of Flemish weavers who came to East Anglia probably in the sixteenth century. They settled in a Cambridgeshire village and stayed there until 1987. From weavers they became peasants, publicans, and finally farmers, producing one of the great names among the agricultural improvers of the nineteenth century.
