Publisher's Synopsis

Originally from northern Italy, Paolo Gasparini moved to Venezuela at the age of twenty and over his extensive career he has become one of the most renowned photographers in Latin America. Associated with Italian neorealism in his early period and influenced by Paul Strand, street photography is one of his main interests, and he has expressed it in a multitude of scenes captured in Caracas, Mexico City, São Paulo and Los Angeles. His images stand out for their deeply human link between large metropolitan areas and the individual attitudes found within them. His documentary photography, focused on depicting the diversity of Latin American society, constitutes a unique body of work, displaying the visual history of the continent and its profound contradictions. In 1993 he obtained the National Photography Prize of Venezuela, the country's most important award. Paolo Gasparini is the star of the new PHotoBolsillo series, which publishes monographs on the most important Spanish and Latin American photographers in a didactic and affordable format.
