Publisher's Synopsis

A story based on the life of Tomoya Kawakita, a Japanese American convicted of treason at the end of World War II. Born and raised in southeastern California, Tomoya finds himself trapped in Japan at the beginning of WWII. His choices, decisions and actions lead to an extraordinary turn of events. Fictional characters have been added along with a true and substantial background and history of federal and state laws leading to the internment of thousands of Japanese-Americans living on the west coast. Circumstances, timing and the law all come together to create a compelling story of human interest, compassion and drama. The trial took place in the Federal court in Los Angeles, California in 1948. The original manuscript of this novel, written nearly 30 years ago, was recently discovered by the authors grandson, Peter Christian Townsend who has decided to bring his grandfather's story to life.
