Publisher's Synopsis

The legend of San Miniato tells that in its 11th-century version, on Mons Fiorentino, was an ancient hermit community. Subjected to persecution, Miniato was subjected to various tortures but refused apostasy and had his head cut off. His martyrdom takes place outside Florence, but after his beheading, Miniato picks up his head and ascends the mountain, where he is finally buried. Despite the legend, there are no certain conclusions about the genesis of the church, an absolute masterpiece interwoven with symbolism, art and history that towers over Florence and can be spotted from every point in the city, particularly at sunset, when the explosion of light from the golden mosaic seems a comfort for the impending night. This volume celebrates the 1000th anniversary of one of the most distinguished basilicas in Christendom.
