The St. Francois Xavier, Manitoba 1834-1900 Register has been alphabetically index. The parish was first established on the White Horse Plains by Mr. Cuthbert Grant, an employee of the Hudson Bay Company. Most of the early parishioners were Métis and relatives of Mr. Grant. The first chapel was Mr. Grant's home. In the Spring of 1833 the local population included 434 people. In January 1834 the official parish was founded.An example of an entryGrant, Cuthbert: S-28, Cuthbert Grant Esq., buried in the Church 16 July 1854, died yesterday, age 58 years, husband of Dame Marie McGillis, in the presence of Pierre Thibert, Joseph Guilbault, Louis Gariepy and many others, J. B. Thibault priest. (Volume 2, page 80)
