The multi-disciplinary study of human communication in its various interwoven forms is a relatively new but increasingly popular academic field. "Studies in Communication" goes beyond existing elementary introductions to the subject to provide a collection of case studies which draw on such disciplines as linguistics, information science, psychology, sociology, history, literature and film to provide evidence that the unity of communication studies exists not in some overall model of communication but in the practical co-operation between disciplines in analyzing empirical phenomena and engaging with methodological and theoretical issues.
