Publisher's Synopsis
The very rich King of Capri is so greedy that he wishes he had two mouths to eat all his food. Mrs. Jewel is a washerwoman and doesn't have very much food at all. She lives across the bay in Naples with her cat and has nothing else in the world. Or so it seems.
One night after an especially hearty feast, when all his servants have gone to bed, the king hangs his messy clothes outside (without realizing that they need to be washed first). But a strong wind blows up and carries not only the king's clothes, but all his riches, all his jewels, everything he has, across the bay to Naples where it lands in Mrs. Jewel's garden. Suddenly Mrs. Jewel and her cat are rich! Because of her kindness and generosity, people start calling the washerwoman the Queen of Naples. One day the king hears about this new queen and he goes to make her acquaintance. When the King of Capri and the Queen of Naples fall in love, they have nothing left to wish for.
With stunning paintings by internationally renowned painter Jane Ray, and a totally enchanting original fairy tale from award-winning author Jeanette Winterson, The King of Capri is perfect for story time, or anytime.
