It is based upon the precepts laid down by Edith Kramer and by others who came before her. The book recognizes and celebrates the artistic creations and processes of those who are beset with varying degrees and challenges. Another component central to this project is that this is a visual arts book. The illustrations have been created by amateur artist-clients, many of whom are gifted. The artworks chosen often possess stylistic idiosyncrasies, obscure content, as well as freely appropriating elements from popular culture. The aesthetic richness of the artworks is often illustrative of the uniqueness of their clinical stories. Several other professionals have been invited to enhance the narrative.
