Publisher's Synopsis

Excerpt from the book: Wealth and luxury, however, crept in, and as a natural consequence the brethren began to deteriorate rapidly. Here the Frati Predicatori (preaching friars) took root, and increased in numbers and influence; but they always kept up their connection with Lombardy, being still under the control of the Vicar-General of that State. About the year 1290 a small body of monks belonging to the Order of St. Silvestre took possession of a poor little building in the Piazza San Marco, and in the space of nine years they had completed the erection of a respectable church adjoining their convent.
This historical work has been digitally restored using the latest technology, making it available in digital and printed form. The original is painstakingly manually restored, leaving fresh, easy-to-read literature in modern fonts whilst keeping the author's intent in place wherever possible. This also enables Kindle versions to use the technology available such as Text-to-Speech, as our books are not simply printed PDFs.
