Publisher's Synopsis

Synopsis of the Mother of the Honey
I am the woman - the story teller - who had the Herculean task to capture the fleeting past and stake a claim to it in the present. I did this because I was prompted to share the family stories I have kept for so long in the labyrinth of my psyche. However, when I was faced by my children, nephews and nieces anxiously holding their iPhones in front of me, trying to capture the stories of their forebearers, often whispered or vaguely told, it daunted on me how important it was to make their ancestors come alive through the stories.
I wanted to give them this gift. Serendipitously, the process of writing this book, made me the receiver of a healing gift, I did not even know I badly needed.
The Mother of the Honey tells the story of an indigenous Brazilian woman and her sisters and their plight to escape the harsh and brutal conditions of their social economic environment which had already caused the death of many of their siblings.
The story is centred around Iracy - whose Tupi Guarani's name means The Mother of The Honey - and her sisters Maria and Ana Maria Luisa, the loves of their lives and the fate of their children. The plot spans through 3 generations and follows Iracy from her birth in 1927 through to her death in 2017.
