By day, Patrick Farrell's work takes him though the streets of South London, repossessing credit cards and searching for missing debtors. And in the evenings he visits his brother Mike, who stares out of his hospital room window and talks about being followed. His new relationship with Jane brings him into contact with her friends, a group of fervent believers in the occult, and tests his ability to remain detached and in control. Then Joshua Painter, a man with a history of exploiting the vulnerable, with connections to Jane's friends starts to take an interest in Mike.
