Publisher's Synopsis

The original work of the 1960's was a brave human endeavor trying to build quickly what nature was developed by millenia, if not millions of years of slow evolution. Details of this history are well known. As time pass, today we observe that the survival time after implant has not increased but remain at about one-year average waiting for a donor transplant. At present, that is the situation, and after almost more than 50 years something need to be done, it is time to analyze how to proceed further. The main obstacle to solve is to test a total artificial (TAH) in an analog test bench as is standard in the more advanced industries. We will address critical difficulties for additional progress in cardiology and vascular analysis by adding the advantages of simulation techniques to the state of the art of the medical science. This will be done with the application of dimensional analysis and similitude enabling the organization and simplification of experiments, and in correlation and interpretation of experimental data. A test protocol will give statistical information of cumulative effect of stress on tissues and organs to determine the risks of medium and long-term implant. An investigation will be made for blood flow motion in an electromagnetic field to initiate a new generation of TAHs and, not the least, the size required for the body size of the recipient.
