At the age of 16 John Duda left Poland, alone, and came to the United States of America. He settled and worked in Chicago for a few years. While living in Chicago he attended a Polish festival in Pulaski, Wisconsin where he met and soon married Catherine Egnarski. He was both a farmer and a sawyer. Eight children and 50 years later the couple celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary in L'Anse, Michigan.
