Cordelia, responsible for the deaths of her father and a new-born baby, flees from America to England. Accompanying her is Poppy, a child she has abducted. Despite these horrendous crimes this is a difficult decision for her. She has still to find her missing son and will be ruthless in her quest. The boy she seeks is not hers, for she has never given birth. Her mental health continues to deteriorate and has a devastating effect on those around her. Meeting Michael changes her life but he has his own agenda. He is seeking to obtain custody of his son from his estranged wife and needs a stable family life to influence the courts in his favour. Cordelia sees the boy as her own. She hates men. The idea of a physical relationship disgusts her. Both characters try to manipulate each other in an effort to attain their goals. Poppy is the pawn in the middle of this dark thriller, full of action and suspense, a worthy sequel to Cordelia.
