Uruguay, a small country bordering Argentina and Brazil, was colonized by the Spanish and Portuguese in the late seventeenth century, much later than its neighbors. Despite the fact that the Charrua people once inhabited the land, little of the native indigenous culture persists today. As a result of the presence of African slaves in the country in the 19th century, the country adopted a variety of African-inspired traditions and festivals, which are particularly noticeable during the Carnival celebrations at the start of the year. Uruguay has a lot to offer visitors in terms of fantastic food, unusual cultures, and plenty of natural beauties to explore and discover.
