Publisher's Synopsis

Tractatus Logico-Philosophicus is a philosophical work by the Austrian philosopher Ludwig Wittgenstein, first published in 1921. The book is composed of seven propositions, each of which is further divided into sub-propositions. The Tractatus aims to provide a logical analysis of language and reality, and to clarify the relationship between them. Wittgenstein argues that language is a system of signs that represents reality, and that the meaning of a proposition is its truth conditions. He also claims that there are limits to what can be said or thought, and that these limits are determined by the structure of language and the world. The Tractatus is considered a seminal work in both the philosophy of language and the philosophy of logic, and has had a significant influence on subsequent philosophical thought. If a god creates a world in which certain propositions are true, then by that very act he also creates a world in which all the propositions that follow from them come true. And similarly he could not create a world in which the proposition 'p' was true without creating all its objects. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Because we believe this work is culturally important, we have made it available as part of our commitment for protecting, preserving, and promoting the world's literature in affordable, high quality, modern editions, that are true to their original work.
